A funeral celebrant is a trained professional who creates and leads personalised funeral, memorial, and celebration-of-life services. Unlike clergy, celebrants are not affiliated with a particular religion and focus on honouring the individual's life, values, and beliefs.
Choosing a celebrant allows for a highly personalised service that can incorporate diverse elements, including non-religious or interfaith aspects. It's ideal for those who don't have strong religious affiliations or prefer a more secular approach. .
I offer a range of services, including creating and leading funeral services, memorial services (held at a later date), celebration-of-life ceremonies, and ash scattering ceremonies. I can also assist with writing eulogies and selecting readings or music.
I will meet with you and your family to learn about the deceased's life, personality, passions, and values. We'll discuss your wishes and preferences for the ceremony, including the tone, content, and any specific rituals or traditions you'd like to include.
Yes, if that is your wish. I am respectful of all beliefs and can incorporate religious readings, prayers, or hymns if they were meaningful to the deceased and your family.
Once you contact me, I will arrange a meeting (in person, by phone, or video call) to discuss your needs. Following our conversation, I will create a draft of the ceremony for your review and feedback. We will work together to refine it until you are completely satisfied. On the day of the service, I will conduct the ceremony with compassion and professionalism. .
The timeframe can vary depending on your needs and the urgency. Ideally, we would have a few days to a week to collaborate on the ceremony. However, I am also available for more immediate needs.
I work closely with families, funeral directors, and other professionals to ensure a seamless and meaningful service.
To create a personalised ceremony, I will ask you to share stories, memories, and details about the deceased's life, personality, hobbies, achievements, and relationships. Photos, videos, and significant items can also be helpful.
While each ceremony is unique and tailored to the individual, I can share testimonials from previous families I have worked with, which may give you a sense of my approach and style.
It's important to understand the distinction between a prepaid funeral plan offered by a funeral company and my prepaid written celebrant service. A traditional prepaid funeral plan involves paying in advance for the tangible goods and logistical services provided by a specific funeral home, such as the coffin, venue, and their professional fees. In contrast, my prepaid written service focuses specifically on the heart of the farewell: the ceremony itself. By choosing this option, you are investing in a personalised and meaningful ceremony script, including eulogies, readings, and other unique elements, crafted in advance according to your wishes. This written plan can then be shared with your family and the funeral director you choose, ensuring your ceremony reflects your life and values, independent of the funeral company selected.
